USITT 05 Toronto
I can consider myself extremely lucky for having been able to attend USITT in Toronto. I participated in the student volunteer program, so unfortunately wasnt able to attend all of the sessions I wished to. However, the entire experience was an amazing one, and I can honestly say that I learned an enormous amount of new information. My group got there early, and were given work passes as we were asked to help set up one of the costume displays on the Show Floor. Anyone who went...you know.. the ones entirely made from paper. It was amazing to get to talk to the designer in private.

Some of the sessions I attended were
--When To Shout Fire-How and When to Evacuate
--Costume Design with an International Perspective
--Demystifying Audio Techniques
--Ohio Valley Regional Section Meeting

The Seminars that I had to work during.. and therefore got to sit in on were
--New Product Showcase
--Alternative Careers in Entertainment: An Esta Roundtable
--Summer Stock Theatre Production
--Wired and Wireless Production Intercom Design

I also worked during the Tech Olympics. I was one of the two models for the Costume Quick Change Competition. Anyone who went will probably remember me. haha.

The Expo Floor itself was AMAZING. I could walk around for days and find something else that I missed. I also worked in the Boutique on the expo floor, and got first shot at the USITT merchandise that I fell in love with.

All in all the entire experience was amazing. Hard to summarize in words. But if you have questions or whatnot.. Feel free to ask.

This was on my Monster.com page today... I'd go for it but I am going off to Grad school instead!

The firm is a ARCHITECTURAL Lighting Design Firm. They are well known and established. It's usually excellent pay (think full time with salary + benifits)as I did well the year I worked in architectue.

Best of luck!

here it is, me asking everyone to help out with funding for our summer show. were either doing the wizard of oz or the music man.

its a non profit community theater, and all the donations are going towards tech funds. we need about 3000 for the rig, and im hoping to get at least a little bit of it through paypal.

i put it as $5.00, so if youre compelled to give more then please just change the quantity to reflect multiples of five.

thanks in advance for help!

heres the paypal link: (if its not there yet then refresh the page or wait)

Conference attendees
To all of you lucky people who attended the USITT conference:

Tell us about it! What were some of the workshops you attended? What did you learn? If someone received summer work, where? If you turned down an offer, where? (For those of us still looking for work... :) )

Since it was brought up in the previous post, how many of you are going to attend the conference this year in Toronto? Would you recommend it?

I went last year, but I can't afford the trip this year. However, I do know a large group of people going who would love to meet you guys. :)

Welcome to the Brand-New USITT Community! Please read the community information, and make sure that you understand all of the guidelines. If you can think of anything to add to the interests list, please comment here so I can add it.

Most of the info about this community is in the info page (imagine that) so I'll just start by saying "Hi", I'm your maintainer jaeelle, and I am very excited to get this community going! As a conversation starter, I know that the national convention is coming up in March, so if you are going, post your plans! Joining the Tech Olympics? Displaying a portfolio or booth? Holding a workshop? Here's your chance to plug. (Also, if you're still looking for a hotel room, I have an extra reserved very close to the convention center that I'd give up to any LJer attending the conference...)

Welcome, welcome! All the world's a stage, and we are the ones who make sure it's properly lit. :)
